Suicide Prevention

This month your local healthpoint will have trained health advisors on hand to offer free, confidential information and advice on all issues related to suicide prevention.

Every day around two people die from suicide in Scotland.

Not all suicides can be prevented but the majority can. Most people who attempt suicide do not want to die; they want to end the pain they are suffering. Talking about suicide is the best way to identify the possibility of it and through openly listening to and discussing someone's thoughts of suicidal behaviour can be a source of relief for them and can be key to preventing the immediate danger of suicide.

Blood Pressure Testing Week - Know Your Numbers!

During 13th - 19th September your local healthpoint will be carrying out free blood pressure tests.

1 in 3 adults in the UK (16 million) has high blood pressure and more than 5 million people don't know they have the condition. It is important to realise that the higher your blood pressure, whatever it is, the higher your risk. High blood pressure is the leading cause of strokes and heart attacks and rarely has any symptoms - the only way to find out if you have high blood pressure is to get tested.

If you do have high blood pressure - there are small steps that you can take to lower it. So come down to your local healthpoint to get your free blood pressure check during 13th-19th September and Know Your Numbers!
